The current Anglo-Catholic debate about its liberal-conservative positions is what Mignolo would call the "Imperial difference." By which he means it is a disagreement among those who are in power and in control over who has a larger theological penis. We are treated to an insight into the inner theological "locker room" of the past colonial powers. (It's looks like it's the Catholic Church currently has the greater theological shlong).
It's a sad state of affair when there is such a disagreement over the liberalization of the church. If and when the church stops bickering over issues that are basically an internal ego measurement and turn their eyes towards truly caring for those who are literally dying in the world both physically and spiritually, then, I wonder how many of these discussions would seem important?
Didn't the UN recent report that 1/6 of the world's population is literally dying of hunger? We didn't hear these churches chime in with the kind of outrage that they are demonstrating now over Rome's offer to provide an ecclesial umbrella to the frustrated Anglicans.
Jim Naughton, the spokesperson for the D.C. Diocese said on NPR today that Rome's gesture was an affront to the Anglican Church. Well, Jim, your church's lack of self-reflection is an affront to humanity, and probably to God.
